The mercy committee is said to have met to discuss the planned execution of
convicted killer Ronald John. Mr. John has lost all his appeals against the
death sentence and he has sent a petition to the Inter-American commission on
human rights, trying to get a stay of execution.
Reports are saying the mercy committee, which is led by the national security
minister, has already met and is said to be awaiting word from the commission on
human rights.
Mister John, also known as dollars, depleted all his appeals when he lost his
final one earlier this year in March.
He was sentenced to death in February 2006, when he was found guilty of the
November 2002 murder of Kenneth Boxie. Mr. Boxie was shot dead during a robbery
committed by Mr. John and two other accomplices.
During investigations mister John was the only one arrested and charged for the
crime. Mr John is being represented by Douglas Mendes.
